Update from our Chair

Dear Stanford Civil & Environmental Engineering Community, Alumni, and Friends,

I hope you all had a lovely summer whether focused on relaxing, going on adventures, or both! We have just kicked off the new academic year on campus and have a lot of news to share for an exciting year ahead.

I am delighted to announce that Iro Armeni is our newest faculty member. She joined us as an assistant professor in August, and you can read more about her below. I am also pleased to announce that Christian Linder was recently promoted to full professor and Rishee Jain was promoted to associate professor (with tenure).

I regret to share the sad news that Professor Emeritus Henry “Hank” Parker passed away in July. We include below a link to an article about his remarkable legacy in bringing rigor to the construction industry. In addition, as a reminder, the memorial service for Professor Emeritus Perry McCarty will be on October 24 on campus; further details for that service, which is open to the public, are also given below.

I hope you enjoy our departmental highlights, and I encourage you to stay connected with us throughout the year. As always, we are grateful for your support and your ongoing participation in the Stanford Civil & Environmental Engineering community.

Sincerely,

Sarah Billington
UPS Foundation Professor and Chair
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
