Welcome to the Summer 2023 newsletter for alumni and friends of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. We’re celebrating the successful completion of the school’s first academic year and reflecting on many meaningful milestones, including awarding our first degrees to 424 new graduates.

School Highlights
A bagpipe procession opened the school's first commencement, where Dean Majumdar encouraged the inaugural class of graduates to use their knowledge, leadership, and commitment to make a positive impact on the world.
SDSS and the Stanford Graduate School of Business jointly created a program that enables students to establish organizations and businesses that can help take sustainability solutions to scale.
Twenty-two global leaders bring a breadth and depth of experience from industry, academia, government, and the nonprofit sector.
The renowned architectural firm and design practice Studio Gang has been chosen to design the school’s new Sustainability Commons.
Yi Cui was named inaugural faculty director of this “launch pad” for co-developing potentially scalable sustainability technology and policy solutions with external partners worldwide.

Bringing computer science to sustainability
Eric Bear CS 23, SUST 23, who earned a coterminal Masters in Sustainability Science and Practice as a member of the school’s first graduating class, deeply values being part of the diverse and interdisciplinary students in the SUST program who share a commitment to planetary resilience.
